How do I treat acne scars?
The first step is to make sure your acne is no longer active. This can be done with topical medications or different levels of oral medications which can be very strong and effective
Once my acne is under control, what do I do to remove scarring on my face?
Scarring can be treated with several methods. These are organized from least to most aggresive.
-Topical prescription strength Vitamin A based creams like Retinols and tretinoins
-Topical prescription strength medications to remove and reduce redness and pigmented blotches and skin stains
-Medical grade chemical peels such as Trichloracetic Acid (not the same as home based or spa based peels and facials)
-Dermal needling to stimulate dermal rejuvenation and filling (not the same as home or spa based needling or microneedling)
-Laser resurfacing to create and reinforce a new layer of epidermis
What is the down time for acne scar treatment?
You can be back to work the same day, or up to several days later, depending on how aggressive your treatment path.
What is my next step?
Take to our Houston Board Certified Dermatologist about the options above and how you would like to proceed. We see many people after they have wasted time with over the counter treatments and back and forth trips to spas. We can start with much stronger options with less back and forth.
