Skin cancer has many different clinical presentations. One of the most often thought of skin cancers is melanoma. It is also important to remember that skin cancers do not have to be dark in color. In fact, many of the more common skin cancers like Basal Cell Cancer and Squamous Cell Cancer do not often have a dark color.
It is best to have any new or changing skin spots examined by a Dermatologist experienced in skin cancer treatment.

Any spots that are new, changing, or of any concern, should be brought to the attention of a physician. Skin exams are also completed in clinic to further help with your screenings.
A few other considerations to keep in mind:
- Regular skin exams are highly recommended for everyone
- Did you know that having freckles (ephelides) is a sign of increased risk of melanoma?
- Although skin cancer can have symptoms that may get your attention (bleeding/pain), they often are painless and difficult to catch early. Especially if you do not get regular skin exams.
