If you are in Houston, you may have experienced the scourge of Rosacea.  This is most often seen in Caucasians but can also be seen in hispanic, indian, pakistani and other ethnic skin patients.

So what is Rosacea?

Rosacea is an inflamatory condition of the skin that is seen as dilated vessels producing a flushed or red/pink skin look.  It can also produce a red tingling painful sensation.  It can even cause similar findings in your eye.

How do you get Rosacea?

The exact cause of Rosacea is not known. Some of the basic pathology is understood but it is not believed to be caused by any one thing.  However, triggers are known to exist such as heat, caffeine, spicy foods, and so forth.

How do I treat Rosacea?

Many treatment options exist for rosacea.  In fact, it sometimes takes a few tries and several visits to find the right treatment plan for you. Medications include topical agents, oral agents, and even laser treatment.  Some options, like laser treatment, are rarely covered by insurance.
