WHAT IS A CHEMICAL PEEL?
Chemical peels are used to improve the overall appearance of skin. A chemical peel is a treatment that is done in clinic in which a chemical solution is applied directly to the skin. While there are different strengths and types of these chemical peels, they are all used to exfoliate the top layers of skin to peel and reveal smoother and rejuvenated skin.
The three types of peels:
-Light: These peels are great for all skin types and best for sensitive skin. They are most effective for minimizing fine lines or sun damage. These peels have little to no recovery time and are great for first time users.
-Medium : This peel penetrates deeper into more layers of the skin. It works against wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and bad sun damage. These peels are usually derived from trichloroacetic acid (TCA), and have mild side effects of burning and stinging with about a week of recovery time.
-Deep : These are the strongest peels and have the most dramatic results. These peels help to remove scars and deep lines. These peels are derived from strong trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or trichloroacetic acid (Phenol peels). Expect more swelling and itchiness with these peels with a healing time of 1-3 weeks.
What can it be used for?
-Treating fine lines and wrinkles
-Fade scarring
-Combat certain types of acne
-Improve overall look and texture of skin
What can I expect? Does it hurt?
Chemical peels can cause redness, stinging, or tingling, but these are all temporary! New skin will start to develop 5-7 days after the peel, and the total recovery time is about 2 weeks- depending on your peel type. Your skin will be more sensitive to sun exposure following the procedure. Please avoid direct sunlight and wear sunscreen daily.
How much does it cost?
Chemical Peels range in price from about $100-$300. Cost does depend on the size of area and strength of peel. This can be discussed with the physician during your consultation.
How can I get the most out of my peel?
